With a few new guitars coming to the site soon, we thought we would talk about our plans with our Harley Benton CST-24 that I own. What is our plan? Well, we plan to keep it, Use it, gig it! We want people to know how versatile Harley Benton Guitars are! We plan to get a few more to the site to try very soon.

Anyway, we have said that the Harley Benton CST-24 is great for guitar mod project. That is exactly what we plan to do. We pan to add a few more mods to this guitar. Today, we are going to go over what we have in mind.

Try Active Pickups

I have always been a fan of passive pickups. I haven’t ever needed to use actives and don’t play the kind of music to justify active pickups. Saying that, I have seen and heard a lot of people praise Fishman Fluence pickups. Upon hearing a few samples and songs, they do sound pretty decent and I think it would be a great guitar mod project.

This has hooked my interest and I am very tempted to put a set inside the Harley benton (as long as you can get them in Chrome to keep the looks) and see what they sound like and how I get on with them. Now, this isn’t as easy as swapping out your pickups for a passive set. Active require a Battery, and most guitars with active pickups have a battery compartment. So it might involve some body work changes or more substance modifications.

Do you use Fishmans? Or Active pickups? Have you installed them yourself? Please let us know how you got on, what you think and if they are worth the upgrade. We would love to hear everyones opinions.

Evertune Bridge

These have gotten popular recently, with a lot of guitar manufactures offering a Evertune Bridge as an option when buying a guitar (Check out Solar Guitars). Now, if you have never seen or heard about Everyone bridges, go give them a look. They are amazing and the technology they use is incredible. They somehow (Using tension) keep the strings in tune, permanently! You can get some crazy effects using them but having a bridge which will guarantee your guitar will never be out of tune, ever! Now that is a performers dream. Imagine playing a gig, knowing you won’t ever have to check your tuning, or knowing you won’t ever be out of tune.

I would be very keen to see how they work, what they are like to live with and to restring and set up. All sounds perfect doesn’t it? Buy the bridge, screw it in and job done! Nope, the downside to this bridge is installation. The bridge requires some heavy routing to the body and to be fitted correctly. I wouldn’t want to attempt it myself. Do this mean I won’t fit one? No, I know that Evertune theirselves offer a fitting service, so this might be something I look into. Any companies in the United Kingdom that fit Evertune bridges please get in touch! We would love to work something out and give this guitar mod project a go.

Fret job & Setup

The last thing I want to do, is to get the frets done. Get them all level and polished. I am not saying that the fret job on the Harley Benton isn’t good. It is one of the best fret job on a budget guitar. I want to do this just out of interest and see how much a proper fret job and set up changes the instrument. Should everyone do it to their budget guitars?

I think this would be an amazing investigation, find out just how much a Fret job and dress changing an Instrument, I am very keen to see the results. I have a company in mind to do this and we are currently in talks so this might be happening fairly soon. We will document the entire process.

Conclusion

So yeah, there are still a few things that I still want to do to the Harley Benton CST-24, These are great for a guitar mod project. If you want to try things out and give something a go, these are the guitars for you, they have so many models and colour available you are almost certain to find something you like. Full review of my Harley Benton CST-24 Left handed to come soon.

I’m sure that the longer I have this guitar the more projects and mods I will plan, and of course, I will document any mod that I do to the guitar, not just mods but any changes in general. Everything about this guitar is going to be documented.
