Bright Onion Pedals Splitter – A super useful tool for all!

Introduction

Time for another review of a device most of you won’t think about or care much about. However, since owning this, it has changed my sound and tone! What is it? It is the Bright Onion Pedals Splitter! This is a splitter so you can run two amps at once! This is the proper way you should run two amps! So excited for when I get the chance to crank up two amps running at the same time! I have some very special articles coming up that I wanted this for (more on that soon). So I looked around and have a foot switch from Bright Onion Pedals, so I knew they made great stuff! So I put my order in!

I will be going over the Bright Onion Pedals Splitter, talking about what it is and what it does. We will go over the controls and features, and then I will talk about my thoughts! This product has a huge selling point!

Brightonion Pedals Splitter

So what is the Bright Onion pedals splitter? To put it simply, it allows you to take one input and output it to two outputs or amps. However, it adds some features to make doing this a lot more reliable and better sounding.

Running two amps is a fantastic experience; however, you could come up against a few things when doing it. The Bright Onion pedals splitter will fix all these issues if they appear. It is a small device that most people won’t ever think about buying. However, if you are in the space of running two or more amps, then this is the product for you.

So, why don’t I go over the basic controls and I/O of the Bright Onion pedals splitter?

  • Input: This is where you would plug your guitar in.
  • Output A: This is an output to 1 of your 2 amps.
  • Gnd/Lift: This is a ground lift and will eliminate any hum or buzz. This only effects output B
  • Phase. 0/180: This allows you to flip the phase of the output. This only effects output B
  • Output B: This is an output to your other amp. The Ground lift and Phase switch affect this output.

For what it does it is fairly small and lightweight!

More on the Bright Onion Pedals Splitter

Using the two switches on the device, you can flip the phase, allowing your amps to sound full and “in sync”, and the ground lift switch to reduce ground hum and buzz. These two switches are vital for running two amps! The splitter does require 9v power to operate and does not have a battery option.

All of Bright Onion pedals devices tend to be semi-custom. What this means is that the units and devices are standard, however, when you are ordering, there are some custom options like the enclosures colour, label colour, and sometimes LED and inputs and outputs. This can make the price vary a lot; however, the standard Brighton Pedals Splitter can be purchased for £70. The version I got was £78 delivered.

Below is a short video going over some nice shots of the product and showing you the design, finish, features, and also set up. This isn’t an in-depth video but provides you with some actual footage of the Brighton Pedals Splitter.

The Video

As mentioned above, below is a short video going over some of the highlight features of the Splitter and also how you can set up two amps. There won’t be any sound clips during this video. I have that lined up as another article going into more depth on how to set up and play a dual amp setup. This will include sounds of a dual amp setup! It is something you need to experience!

Saying that, I would like to hear about what you think of the Bright Onion Pedals Splitter! Please feel free to head over to the YouTube video and leave your comments and thoughts!

What are my thoughts?

The Design

I got my Bright Onion pedals splitter in white and black! I think this gives it a nice, clean, and fresh look. The finish is a textured kind of finish. I absolutely love the look and design of this pedal! I think it is a very clean and simple design. Again, I am aware that this is a very simple utility product; however, that is what impresses me more! The effort and care taken with products like this.

Size-wise, I think this device is just perfect! Enough room to read and use; however, small enough you can put it under a pedalboard and hide it away. However, this does have a slight downfall, but I will get onto this shortly.

"I would happily say that once you have set both your amps down from unloading. You can be set up ready to soundcheck in minutes!

The Performance

How does it perform as a splitter? Perfectly! It is so easy to set up and configure! You plug all the cables in, power up the device, and then if you notice a lot of hum, you flick the ground switch.

Now, it is super easy to flip the phase; however, you still have to use your ears and work out if it is out of phase. In my experience, this varies depending on volume, amps, and location! Sometimes you can tell straight away, and other times you can’t. Now, this isn’t the fault of the product! Once you have noticed that the phase is out, you just flick the switch!

I would happily say that once you have set both your amps down from unloading. You can be set up ready to soundcheck in minutes! Once you get used to it, setting up two amps doesn’t take much more time than setting up one amp. This is even more true if you are using combos! Add the splitter to your pedalboard, and it becomes even easier!

Such a nice finish to the splitter! It is such a professional and classy job!

The Drawbacks

I don’t really have anything bad or negative to say about the Bright Onion pedals splitter. It isn’t so much of a negative, but it is worth noting that not all the custom options are free. Some of them have an extra charge. It isn’t that much, but it is worth noting. Fortunately, they tell you what will cost extra when you are building your splitter.

One small thing I did notice is that the LED is punchy! It has a nice brightness to it! When I put it on the underside of my Schmidt Array 350 board (Review Here). Even in a well-lit room, the LED was illuminating the underside of the board! Made me chuckle to myself! Like a UFO below my board!

"The thing that Bright Onion has going for it is the price point!"

Final Thoughts

At the start of the review, I mentioned that it had a huge selling point. What is that? Well, the price! You can buy these on the Bright Onion webshop for £70. Considering it is made in the UK, built for order, and has a small amount of customisation to it, I think that is a great deal!

Add on top of that the build quality and service is properly good! Very responsive through emails! I am aware there are other companies out there that are building similar products, even some in the UK. Believe me when I say those reviews are coming! The thing that Bright Onion has going for it is the price point! It has smashed the price-to-quality chart! A great price for a great product!

Conclusion

So that is my review of the Bright Onion pedals Splitter! I will say that I paid for this product! Just needed one for a project and want to support Bright Onion pedals. I have not received any money or reward for this review. As I mentioned above, I bought this for a future project and article; there will be more on this soon!

I know this is a random review, but I bought the device because I needed it and thought it would be worth putting a review together for it! Also, I want to help spread the word about Bright Onion Pedals. They have a huge array of products, and if you are after anything foot switch-related, then definitely give their website a look.
